Paradoxes in Society

Purpose 

The purpose of this Memo is to tell you about four paradoxes that see in our society today. Hopefully the messages are that interesting that they wake you up and makes you start writing advice to anyone who is interested to start training for better mental strength.

Paradoxes in society

In this context I want to bring up four of the paradoxes I see in today’s society.  

  1. Against all knowledge we use less time to discuss basic value, philosophical matters and also less time to laugh People gradually loose free time or slack. And that at a time when we have more time saving machines, faster communication and more money than ever before!

  2. We still have quite a few people that are negative in their attitude towards “Mental Training”! Or they don’t know what it’s all about and are of that reason shy to show that. This in a time where mental training  in order to achieve mental strength  to better cope with matters as stress handling, learning, teamwork, change, concentration, awareness, problem solving, mindfulness and focus. Not to talk about the fact that very few kids get basic training for the above skills from first day in school!

  3. It is possible to handle Diabetes II with adjustments in the food intake and more physical exercise. No medicine is needed in most cases. Still the ”Care” go on as earlier and say nothing about the Self Care alternative! New drugs are prescribed. The care seeking person is at the same time transformed from an active, responsible citizen to a passive package, called a “Patient”. The Patient follows the planned flow in the huge, multi institutional, super technological organizations all to the end station.The Patient get more and more drugs diff of all colors and shape. Other characteristics of a typical Patient are that he/she spend a lot of time in different lines waiting for a short meeting with doctor who have an awkward time shortage. In most of the cases I know, the Patient has always been very thankful for the care they are given!

  4. The last paradox leads us back where this memo started and it’s all about the following:
    Of different  reasons each person today are forced to take more and more decisions. And the scope of each decision is often increasing. The news- and information flow is at the same time growing in a way that’s beyond all earlier, thinkable boundaries.
    4.2 At the same period of time more and more people in our society suffer “Burn out” or they ”Go into the Wall”! I do believe that the increasing number of divorces, suicides and people suffering mental diseases belongs in the above context.

All this are, according to my opinion:

First: Signs of missing basic knowledge about our bodies and their function. This goes both for the individual themselves as well as for the management of the organizations where they spend most of their awaken time.

Second: Lack of internal communication on the individual level and as a result of this a low degree of self-knowledge. Low awareness

Meeting #2 - Your beliefs

What are beliefs regarding the following statements?

  • I do believe I can influence on my life now and in the future!

  • I do believe I can take control over my thoughts!

  • I believe my thoughts influences on my body and its healing and developing functions.

These are the questions for your first meeting with yourself!

How you go on is something that’s only you yourself can answer. At the same time you are, in the end, the only one who can help yourself gain a better life.  You are also the only one who can judge what your alternative life means to you, that is, whether it is worth the challenges to meet, to find good solutions forand to learn from? You might get the feeling, that what I am telling you is quite similar to swim upstream, instead of just follow the water flow! Then I have managed to show you the right picture.
This is one of the most important “fundamentals”.
We human beings need needs hinders and challenges on our way through life if we shall have a chance to have what we call “a good life”!

When you ask yourself about your future, I urge you to watch out for the following:

  • Are you moving, with the attitude you have chosen, in the direction of a future in which you are a winner?  If the answer is “No”!, think again! You have a tremendous opportunity to grow as a person and to learn a lot.

  • Is your success contingent on the actions of others or the occurrence of special circumstances?  I mean by this, are you letting your success depend on persons or events over which you have no control?  If your answer is “Yes,” think again!

It is just as clear in this case as in all others that a person must invest before he or she can expect to earn a profit or reward.  Nothing is ever gained by just sitting passively and waiting.

For example, have you ever heard of an athlete who first received a medal and then competed in a contest as thanks for the medal?  Of course not!  And that also applies to you!

As you sow, so shall you reap

Our thoughts are like seeds sown upon the earth to grow. That being so, if you sow thistles it will be thistles you reap, right?  Anyone who sows thistles yet expects to harvest sunflowers is deceiving himself. The only way you are able to harvest sunflowers is to sow sunflower seeds.

It is the pictures of your own story that you carry around with you that add up to the concept you have of yourself, your self-image.

Among our most important thoughts are those about where we are headed.  These create the pictures we have of our future, our goal-pictures. Once these pictures have taken shape, we are compelled toward them by a highly precise mechanism.


Examples of positive pictures/ideas:

  • Believe you are going to feel better, and you shall.

  • Believe you can do it, you’ll be right.

  • Believe you get the resources/energy needed to do it, you’ll be right.

 

Examples of negative pictures/ideas:           

  • Believe you are going to feel worse, and you shall.

  • Believe you cannot do it, you’ll be right.

  • Believe you don’t get the resources/energy needed to do it, you’ll be right.

There is one special condition you have to remember that is valid for all the positive choices and that is:

  • You have to believe to 100 %. And no less! Because in all other cases your own brain will fool yourself as it is programmed mainly to make you survive. As a consequence it want stability and hates changes.
