Unconscious eleven years

Mrs. Gulli Johansson, 75, Sweden, was about to give up life after eleven long years in a drugged state of mind. As she stopped eating the doctors also decided to stop giving her the medicine she been given every day. Everybody thought that this was the end and the family was called and informed that their mother and grandmother probably would leave them within a weeks time.

But instead, as like a miracle, the opposite happened!

When Gulli wasn’t fed with lots of heavy medicines anymore her body and mind went from apathy to a healthy state in just a few days. Gulli’s daughter was quite astonished when they came to the hospital and saw Gulli sitting up in her bed! The daughter was even more surprised when her mother opened her mouth and started talking. She hadn’t said a word for years! When they entered her room Gulli frankly declared: “how good you are here, I want to get up!”

Lives for the future

This dramatic shift happened about a year ago. Since then Gulli has recovered to a normal life. She does as much as possible in order to get the lost years back. She is a marvelous person who seems to manage stay away from bitterness, revenge etc.
When I saw her last time, on TV, she was sitting with her grandson on her lap. She obviously had a great time and her grandson was showing her how to handle and use her new mobile phone. She declared frankly she was more interested in the future than the past!
Her intention is to take the lost years back through living an active life. She has for example read over 100 books since she woke up a year ago.

Who’s responsible?

How on earth could something like what happened to Gulli be possible in a modern society like the Swedish with its high standard of technology, education, welfare and care?

There is probably not one answer to the above question. In addition to that, some of the reasons why it went so wrong are for sure local and depending on typical Swedish organization, roles, hierarchies, political strategies and beliefs etc. Remember though that the Gulli-case did happen. And it must not happen again! So we have to try to find the answers.

Questions to discuss

In my book I declare that I myself am the ultimate responsible for my own body and health. And even in a case like the above I don´t change this principle!

Think, discuss with others, and send your ideas to MasterParkinson! Be active!
I chose to end this Hope Keeper message by a quotation from page 29 in my book:
“What matters most is not the talent we are given
But how we use them”

”I just couldn't stop reading ...”
I just couldn't stop reading this wonderful book until I came to the end. It is a truly remarkable book. It looks at life as a "do it yourself" project. It is a book for winners and a book to be used in the "Mental Toughness Training" course.
